On this segment the old Akiba Kaido Pilgrimage Route climbs from the Suijin Shrine on the banks of the Tenryu River through the Shimohisakata area of Iida City. It is a small steep road suited for hikers with an average fitness. No technical obstacles. At some places the route crosses National Highway 256, a two lane road, so watch out for cars. I did it on an E-Bike, which was a total bliss. Once this road was bustling with pilgrims and the horses of merchants.
