The place was mentioned in 1458 in consecration and indulgence letters of the Diocese of Constance for the church of St. Barbara in Tiefenbach. In 1518, Count Hugo von Montfort built a bathhouse in Tiefenbach at the sulfur spring. In 1775, the division of the common ground took place, which led to the settlement sprawl of the hitherto closed village.

Nordic walking

The political municipality of Tiefenbach was established in 1818. Between 1898 and 1899, the road connection to today's B19 was built,[1] which represented a significant shortening of the route to Oberstdorf for horse-drawn carriages. Previously, Tiefenbach had only been accessible by vehicles from Obermaiselstein. The Breitachklamm gorge, located at the exit of the Kleinwalsertal valley near Tiefenbach, was made accessible in 1905 by the Tiefenbach parish priest Johannes Schiebel. In 1917, a lung sanatorium was inaugurated in the Wasach district; today, the building houses a rehabilitation clinic for orthopedics.
