Shortly after the massacre of Oradour-sur-Glane by the SS Nazis, a column of German tanks was stationed in the main street of the town of Coussac-Bonneval.

One Sunday morning, the officer commanding the column was surprised at the few men present in the streets and thought that they were all in the maquis.

He was told that they were at mass and he entered the church with his men to check. Annoyed by the sound of explosions outside the church, the Germans became threatening.

Abbé LARRIQUE, parish priest, made a vow at that time to build a chapel to the Virgin Mary if the town was spared. The Germans left shortly after this incident and the construction of the chapel was carried out in 1946 on land located in Biaugeas.
