The Ampermoos is located in the northern Ammersee basin and covers approximately 529 hectares. The largest part (53%) of the Ampermoos is located in the Fürstenfeldbruck district. It was created when the Windach debris fan separated the northern part of the originally larger Ammersee and the natural silting process began. This gave rise to one of the largest fens in Bavaria, which today is home to stands of cutting reeds and moorland meadows with rare river valley species that are important nationwide.
