The Averara Valley had a valid defensive line, divided into towers and castles, and the Fontana tower was one of these bulwarks.
Located in dominant strategic points, the fortifications responded to defense and sighting needs.
Today the Castle and the ruins of the Torre della Fontana and the Torre sopra la Corna survive.
The two towers were placed in visual connection so that it was possible to transmit in a very short time the news of the approach of danger or the request for help with night fires or daytime smoke.
