The Donge on the Lage Ham is a very beautiful river. However, in the heyday of the shoe industry, this was not the case. Numerous tanneries, located on the Lage Ham, used De Donge for rinsing the hides. This caused a gigantic pollution of the water and a considerable stench. Fortunately, this is no longer visible. Leather tanning and De Donge have left their mark in the history of Dongen!
