From here you can wonderfully observe the breeding birds in the inaccessible protection zone 1 and take a look at Norderney. :)

The Kalfamer is the east end of our island. Similar to the west, you will find extensive sandy areas here, but they are considerably greener, because new dunes are being created everywhere. Kalfamer is the youngest area on the island.

When the Petriflut divided the island in 1651, there was still the small island of Buise, which was completely destroyed in the course of the following decades. The east end of Juist was then at what is now the eastern edge of the village.

The primary dune fields on the Kalfamer are an important bird resting and nesting area. Thousands of birds stop here to breed and rest. Therefore, during the breeding season from April 1st to July 31st, access to the Kalfamer is only possible as part of special tours. During the rest of the year, a hike through the Kalfamer is only permitted on the only approved path. You can recognize the path by the green peg markings. However, you should only do this circular hike at low tide in order to keep a large distance from the bird colonies.

When arriving and departing by ship, you can often see seals at Kalfamer. With a little luck, you can also find amber on Kalfamer. Please note, however, that you are in the quiet zone of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. You must not leave the paths. There is an information hut on the western border to the Kalfamer, which is manned by guards and community service providers during the closed period Guards pay close attention to the rules for the protection of flora and fauna The name "Kalfamer" comes from the Frisian word "Kalv" (English Calf) = calf and "hammer", meaning low-lying, wet meadow -Hammer = Kalfamer = calf meadow.

Great view and close to nature. Get out of bed and explore the island.
