At the end of the trail is a wide flat plateau, a good camp location, or a base for hikes up the West Face to Shastina and to Mt Shasta summit. Snow often lingers into early summer, but even later in the year there's a good supply of water from snowmelt higher up. Beware of rock fall when the sun comes out, as well as at night if windy. At windspeeds above 20 mph it is very difficult to go higher, at 30 mph strongly discouraged. Bring crampons and know how to arrest your fall either with poles or ice axe.
