The raised bog of the Bavarian Au, which slopes slightly to the north, lies on the north-east slope of the Bohemian Forest at 720 to 730 meters above sea level. The Bavarian Au touches the Lipno reservoir at the north-eastern end and is bounded by the two Austrian-Czech border rivers Igelbach in the east and Black Runse in the north. The area with a peat thickness of more than half a meter is around 31 hectares. The center of the Bavarian Au, which is planted with a sparse spirken forest, is particularly close to nature. This is surrounded by a dense forest fringe, which is mainly made up of Norway spruce and Scots pine. The maximum peat thickness is 460 centimetres. In the 1920s, drainage ditches were dug to cut peat, which was dried and used as firewood in times of wood shortages. The Bavarian Au has been part of the Austrian natural forest reserve program since 1999.

The wooden plank path is 700 meters long and runs right through the moor. A real nature experience.
