The Buch monastery is a former Saxon Cistercian monastery known as the "St. Marien” was founded in the 12th century and is today in the Klosterbuch district of the town of Leisnig. After the Reformation, it and its lands became purely agricultural. Today, under the leadership of the Förderverein Kloster Buch e. V. has preserved and restored the monastery complex true to its historical roots and made it accessible to visitors.
Buch Monastery is located near Leisnig in the Mittelsachsen district on a bend in the Freiberger Mulde river. It belongs to the Klosterbuch district of Leisnig and is about 4 km east of Leisnig town centre. In the area of the monastery, the river created an approximately 800 m wide valley meadow that is used for agriculture and is lined with forests on its slopes. The Mulde flows between the monastery area and the opposite rocky steep bank.
Guided tours of the old facility took place on weekends. In 2000, the monastery complex became the property of the Förderverein Kloster Buch e. V. This marked the beginning of the transformation into a cultural and historical centre.
The flood events of the Mulde in August 2002 caused enormous damage to the monastery complex, which was completely repaired by 2008.
Today, exhibitions, events and guided tours take place in the monastery. The monthly farmer's markets and the monastery and harvest festivals in September are magnets for visitors. Tens of thousands of visitors come to the monastery every year. Source Wikipedia
