Not far from the naval port, the Flanders bunker recalls the horrors of the Second World War. The three-story bunker was at that time air defense and emergency command center of the naval port, but also served the civilian population as a refuge in air raids. It has been a listed building since the beginning of 2005 and has been used by the association "Memorial Kilian e.V." since 2001 as an educational and memorial site.

The association "Mahnmal Kilian" e.V. wants to preserve the Flanders bunker, which presents itself as a compact, defiant gray concrete cube, as an authentic historical monument in public space. Its character as a protective structure at the time of the Second World War catches the eye due to the lack of any beautifying ingredient (e.g. clinker brick) and the enormous wall thickness of over 2 meters visible at the openings.
Now almost museum-like. Man finds u. a. Documentaries about the Third Reich. It is definitely worth a visit.
