It is known that this bridge was ordered to be built by the infante Fernando in 1410 on the occasion of his presence in these lands and the always necessary improvement of the Córdoba – Seville route on the right bank of the Guadalquivir. The works were almost finished in 1428 but stopped, a situation that continued for many years, apparently until a century later. It was a large bridge made with limestone ashlars. It conserves 9 piers, eight of them with their breakwaters clearly visible upstream, and 10 arches, three of them complete. The arches are semicircular and were built using wooden falsework, evidence of which has been left in the eight beveled mechinales that most of the piers maintain in their intrados. The bridge roadway is about 6 meters wide and, although it is not preserved, it must have had parapets on the sides.
