Helle knives have been manufactured by A/S Helle Fabrikker in Holmedal since the early 1930s. In the middle of the economic crisis, the unemployed brothers Steinar and Sigmund Helle decided to start producing quality knives in the old forge there. The knives quickly became very popular with the locals. In order to conquer new markets, Steinar Helle stuffed a backpack full of knives and set off for Oslo. A bike ride over the high mountains of almost 500 kilometers
