If the campsites at Border Spring are too dangerous for you due to the dead, burned trees, walk 0.3 miles into Lassen National Park, then take the faint trail to Little Willow Lake Trailhead for another 0.2 miles. The trailhead is outside the park again and you can pitch your tent in a safer area.
