There is a hiking car park by the church. The cycle path to Korbach also passes here.

The town of Welleringhausen is over 1000 years old (millennial celebrations in 1990). The church, built in quarry stone masonry in a purely Romanesque style, dates from the end of the 12th century or the first half of the 13th century. A dendrochronological investigation revealed the year 1503 as the earliest possible construction date for the roofs over the community room and the choir. However, our church only received its current name "Abraham's Church" around 20 years ago.

Whether it was actually built as a "fortified church", as is often argued with reference to the more than one meter thick walls, the massive stone vault and the shape and small number of window openings, is rather controversial.

And that it was donated to Welterkusen by a nobleman named Abraham is very unlikely. Because it was only in 1313 that Count Wilhelm von Arnsberg enfeoffed him with the patronage of the church.

Three clear components - an almost square nave, the slightly recessed choir and the west tower - give the church an unmistakable Romanesque appearance - not least because of the gabled roofs with the same pitch. The few windows have been changed at a later time. The round arch between the nave and the chancel is a peculiarity of the Upland churches.

The baroque "furnishing" by Josias Wolrat Brützel at the end of the 17th century makes our church a precious gem among the Waldeck village churches.
