The place chosen for the creation of this abbey is called Brank-Alek, which means in French the branch of Saule. The name Relecq comes from this eponym.

The abbey is said to have been founded by monks from the abbey of Begard in 1132. The site still has buildings in good condition, but some have become ruins.
