Eighty years ago the first passage of the Giro d’Italia at Passo Rolle. It ran the Vittorio Veneto-Merano. It was May 26, 1937. There were four stages to go. Gino Bartali wore the pink shirt. He had snatched it from Giovanni Valetti on the top of Terminillo, at the end of the time trial a few days earlier.

On the roads of Trentino and South Tyrol Gino Bartali was the protagonist of an extraordinary one-two. It imposed itself in the stage of Merano.

Twenty-four hours later he replicated that success in Gardone Riviera, making his advantage in the standings unbridgeable.

Glauco Servadei in San Pellegrino Terme, Marco Cimatti in Como and Aldo Bini in Milan won the last three day milestones of the 1937 Giro. Bartali dominated that Giro.

Almost nine minutes ahead of Giovanni Valetti, placed in the place of honor. The third, Enrico Mollo, closed at over seventeen minutes.

Having won his second Giro, Bartali, the following year he would have given emotions on the roads across the Alps by winning the first of his two Tour de France. Last annotation of the 1937 Giro. The Passo Rolle Mountain Grand Prix allowed Gino Bartali to pocket valuable points for the classification of climbers who, at the end of the Giro, saw him climb the top of the hill. With a large margin over all the others.
