Calvary Hermitage

Typical hermitage of the Valencian baroque, located very close to the town center of Alcalà. It develops a Greek cross typology, with a rectangular ground plan and two small wings at the head: the sacristy, on the left, and the hermit's dwelling, on the right.The dome is round inside, and octagonal and pointed on the outside. It is covered with blue and white glazed tiles at the corners.
The doorway is of the Doric-Tuscan order, with an undulating pediment. The front is closed with a simple cornice with a mixtilinear profile, crowned by a belfry.
The interior space is articulated in the Corinthian order and is decorated with paintings or carved stuccoes, which show the taste for Rococo.In the paintings of the pendentives motifs of the Passion appear: The Burial, The Flagellation, The Prayer in the Garden, The Descent, while four themes from the Old Testament appear on the dome.
Around this Hermitage, picnic areas and barbecues have been located to enjoy the enclave.
