Where the village of Larsen was planned in the original development plan of the province (1959) is now the Larserbos. This diverse forest offers many recreational opportunities, including (approximately 300 acres) three beaches, grassy areas and playgrounds, as well as hiking and biking trails. The area also has two campgrounds.

The forest borders the Larservaart: an important ecological corridor of Flevoland. The gradually imposing trees and mature shrubs emphasize the small-scale alternation of open and closed forest. The forest borders the Larservaart, the Larservaart Strip and the Heggen en Wildwallen landscape. As a result, the forest has, as it were, foothills to the nature park, the Knarbos and the Harderbos. This is perhaps one of the reasons why the bird population of the Larserbos is so diverse: about 45 bird species breed in a high number compared to well-known forests such as the Horsterwold.
