Here the story of Menzenschwand is clarified once again, which concerned uranium ore mining up to the end of the 80s. Permanent headlines, caused by mishaps and problems on the part of the mine operator, however, are rather in vain here. Historically, the pit was shown in a good light. Contemporary witnesses living here see it a little differently. Today there is little left of the mine and the mining area. But soil samples and UV light or measuring devices still bring traces of the past to light today. Artifacts and mica rock can definitely be found in this way. However, inquiries to the competent authorities did not give rise to any concern.
A sign of the Freiburg Nature Association on a bridge invites you to cool off and enjoy a mountain stream;)

The disused Krunkelbach mine near Menzenschwand is the largest uranium deposit in western Germany. By 1991 about 100,000 tons of uranium ore were mined. Since 2005, water containing fluoride has been pumped from the nearby Barbara spring for the thermal baths in Menzenschwand.
