Jovellanos is a city and municipality in the province of Matanzas in Cuba, divided into the barrios of Asunción, Isabel, Realengo and San José. In 1842 the settlement was founded as Corral de la Bemba. It was given its current name in 1870 in honor of the statesman and writer Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos
