A beautiful city. Definitely one of the most beautiful in Saarland!

St. Ingbert is located on the Saarbrücken – Homburg axis, which is of central importance for Saarland as it concentrates most of the country's economic power. Internationally speaking, St. Ingbert lies on the line that connects the Paris Basin with the Rhine-Main area around Frankfurt am Main. Measured according to the Earth's graticule, St. Ingbert (Engelbertskirche measuring point in the city center) is located at 7° 6' 45" east longitude and 49° 16' 47" north latitude.
The medium-sized town has seven neighboring municipalities. In clockwise order these are Spiesen-Elversberg and Neunkirchen (Saar) (Neunkirchen district), Kirkel, Blieskastel and Mandelbachtal (Saarpfalz district), Saarbrücken and Sulzbach/Saar (Saarbrücken regional association) (wiki).

The name of the city goes back to Saint Ingobertus. Ingobertus or Ingbert is said to have worked as a hermit in what is now the city.

St. Ingbert's prosperity began with industrialization. The city grew rapidly with the establishment of iron smelters, forges, glassworks and coal mines. The first ironworks, the Schmelz, went into operation in 1733. The relics of this time can still be visited today, such as the Alte Schmelz factory settlement, one of the oldest factory settlements in southwest Germany.

In the immediate vicinity are the Möllerhalle and the mechanical workshop, which are now used as an industrial cathedral for events. The Rischbachstollen, a former mine from the mid-18th century, has now been developed into an adventure mine and is definitely worth a visit. The pedestrian zone on Kaiserstrasse invites you to stroll and enjoy. Between shops, restaurants and ice cream parlors stands the baroque Engelbertskirche (1755) with a carillon consisting of 23 bells. Not far from the pedestrian zone you can reach the green lung of St. Ingbert, the Gustav Clauss complex with a beautiful pond and a children's playground.

Green mountains with lots of forest rise around St. Ingbert, perfect for walking and hiking. On the hut hiking trail you can hike through 5 hiking huts in one go or you can start into the beautiful Ruhbachtal in Schüren, a small hamlet with excursion restaurants. The local recreation area Glashütter Weiher near Rohrbach with a fishing hut and a restaurant is also ideal for hiking. There is still a historic wash house in the Oberwürzbach district (beginning of the 20th century). In the Rentrisch district, the so-called Spellenstein, a menhir from the Younger Stone Age, stands in the middle of a front garden. The city's landmark is the Stiefeler Felsen. The table rock made of red sandstone, formed by erosion into a giant shoe, gave the name to the mountain on which it stands, the Great Boot.

St. Ingbert is also a leader in the area of culture; the “Sankt Ingberter Pfanne” is now one of the top trio of cabaret awards in German-speaking countries. It is a cabaret prize that has been awarded annually by the city of Sankt Ingbert since 1985.
