Engratshofen is a rural, small village, which was formerly known mainly because of a large, located in the immediate vicinity special ammunition camp Landsberg Leeder the US Army or the Bundeswehr. In the bunker built in 1971, warheads for American nuclear weapons were stored in over 40 earth bunkers during the Cold War. The bunkers of the former ammunition warehouse near Engratshofen
The bunkers were no longer used since the 1980s for nuclear weapons storage, 2003, the site was sold by the Bundeswehr. After lengthy discussion and controversial debates, in February 2007, the specially-founded company Energy Storage Fuchstal, which owns the 19.4-hectare site under the name special field of renewable energy Am Huttenbügel for some time, was granted the approval for biogas production by dry gasification. Due to technical problems, however, this plan was abandoned for the time being. The planned development plan presented the municipality with the problem that the details of the development were kept secret for strategic reasons and that the existing buildings on the site were at that time without building permit and the bunkers and watchtowers are to be approved later.The planned biogas plant should generate about 1.6 megawatts of electrical power in the final stage
