Ruins of Pieniny Castle. The first records of it are from the 14th century about Princess Kinga and nuns who hid here during the Mongol invasion at the end of the 13th century. She most likely built the castle as a hideout in the then inaccessible Pieniny Mountains.

There is a good information board about the castle: everything looks very dramatic and historical.

The castle was built on the northern side of the mountain peak, a few dozen meters below the summit. The southern wall of the mountain is formed by an inaccessible cliff about 50 m high, and from the north, access is blocked by cliffs descending steeply to the Pieniński Stream[2]. The castle was built on a rock shelf. This place is defensive by nature, as it is connected to the remaining part of the Three Crowns Massif ridge only by a narrow rocky isthmus, while on the other sides there are steep rock slopes. The castle was small, limited by the smallness of the place and perfectly blended into the natural rock ridges. The defensive walls, 88 m long and 1 m thick, were made of local limestone, on them there was a superstructure, probably wooden. On the western side there was a gate, and cellars below it. Just behind the gate, a cistern was carved in the rock, where water from a small spring was collected (it is called the source of St. Kinga, it periodically dries up). On the eastern side, behind the cistern, square foundations have survived, probably defensive towers

The ruins are on the blue trail. It is worth taking a look after entering Trzy Korony.
