Can be reached from the Alm or from the Gartnerkofel. Really great view.

On the way from the Watschiger Alm to the Kammleiten, the path crosses a rock that is unique to this area just before the summit. It consists of colorful, decimeter-sized rounded boulders made of lime and dolomite. The rock is called “Muschelkalk conglomerate” or Uggowitz breccia and was formed in the older Triassic period (around 230 million years ago). The 44 m thick rock builds up the entire summit of the Kammleiten, only in the lower part is a four meter thick layer of green volcanic tuffs interspersed with it. These tuffs could be evidence of formation by an earthquake or volcanic eruption that shook the sea floor and raised parts of the subsoil above the surrounding area. Angular rock rubble could have accumulated at the foot of the high floe, which was relocated, transported, crushed and rounded near the coast. Nassfeld is a beautiful hiking area on the Carnic Main Ridge, a saddle between the Austrian Gail Valley and the Italian Canal Valley. The pass is at an altitude of 1530 m above sea level, and the surrounding mountains include the Gartnerkofel (2195 m), the Rosskofel (2239 m), and the Trogkofel (2280 m).

For flower lovers, the Gartnerkofel is a must! The Kuhtritt, a rare and endemic mountain flower, can be found here!

For culinary delights, there are several beautiful huts and interesting restaurants to discover! 😋
