From Jamestown on the Road to Tassajara is unpaved and mountainous, with some spectacular views. It is mostly wide enough for two vehicles to pass each other slowly. The surface is gravel and dirt, and pretty steep from both sides. The highest point at Chew's Ridge is a total climb of about 3000 ft, roughly in the middle from either end.
