About the history of the White City:
The White City is one of the six settlements of Berlin Modernism. It was built as the last classical modern settlement in the Weimar Republic. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. The architects in the White City were Otto Rudolf Salvisberg, Bruno Ahrends and Wilhelm Büning. Between 1929 and 1931, over 1,000 residential units for workers and employees were built here. The landscape architect Ludwig Lesser was responsible for the garden and open space planning. The settlement has its own district heating power plant, two central laundries, a children's home, a youth traffic school, a doctor's office and a total of 20 shops. The open internal structure of the large settlement consists of peripheral and row buildings with green areas running towards each other. Colored accents such as rain pipes, roof overhangs, doors and window frames contrast with the white of the buildings. The landmark of the White City is the Brückenhaus on Aroser Allee.
