The parish church of San Pelayo is located in Arredondo (Cantabria) and does not exactly go unnoticed in this town that is said to be "The capital of the world". It was built on the initiative of the Indian D. Antonio Gutiérrez de Solana, in the Neoclassical style of the late nineteenth century (it was completed in 1860) and declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. It has a stepped entrance and four Corinthian-style columns, inside it has three naves, the central one being wider and higher than the side ones, and with a semicircular apse. The central nave has a barrel vault, while the aisles have nearly flat vaults. What is most striking is its free-standing bell tower. This great cylindrical tower that simulates a lighthouse and that can be seen from all points of Arredondo. It is one of the most photographed places in the region and one of its hallmarks, becoming a symbol. It preserves some objects of artistic interest, such as several Romanesque carvings that are behind the main altar, from the original altarpiece, and a silver gilt monstrance from the end of the 18th century, from Mexico City.
