Rising from Lizard Point above the sea, Souter Lighthouse was the first lighthouse in the world that used alternating electric current. It was one of the most advanced lighthouses of its time when it opened in 1871.

The lighthouse is now no longer needed to guide ships to land. Today, it's managed by the National Trust and open to visitors. You can have a look around the engine room, light tower and keeper's living quarters. There's also an outdoor play area to keep the kids entertained.

Great place for a pit stop on a nice day.

I normally get myself a coffee and read my book for 30 mins before heading back along the route.

The views of the north sea are good to.

The red and white curled lighthouse stands since 1871 at this point. It is the first lighthouse in the world designed to run on electricity. But not only the lighthouse itself is particularly beautiful and to look at, but also the area in which it stands. If you have time, it is worth the short bike and walk to the cliffs on the cliffs. There you have a beautiful view of the North Sea and the possibility to observe different birds while nesting.

The red and white striped lighthouse has stood here since 1871. It is the first lighthouse in the world designed to run on electricity. But not only the lighthouse itself is special and pretty to look at, but also the area in which it stands. If you have time, it is worth stopping the bike here briefly and walking to the cliffs on the cliffs. There you have a beautiful view of the North Sea and the opportunity to watch different birds nesting.
