The Mildenitz rises at the central southern edge of the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide nature park. There its source is near Plau am See between the villages of Zarchlin.

Already about three kilometers from its starting point, the Mildenitz has developed into a sizeable stream through tributaries from small side ditches and meadow breaks. The 62-kilometer path then leads to the confluence with the Warnow near Sternberger Burg.

The nature reserve in the Mildenitzer Durchbruchtal is wildly romantic and beautiful, perfect for hiking and biking
