The church of Sant Esteve is located in Vila-sacra, a town that already in the 10th century was part of the possessions of the nearby Monestir de Sant Pere de Rodes. Of the original temple, only a few rows of ashlars remain, since what has been preserved until today is the reconstruction carried out at the beginning of the 14th century.

The church has a single nave, without an apse, and a barrel-vaulted roof. Some details of the original construction can be seen, such as a small window that was blinded during the reconstruction. During its reform it was fortified, adding battlements and a thief's window just above the entrance door.
