Cancale has excellent fish restaurants and is best known for its oyster beds. Oysters are offered here in all variations at very affordable prices. Cancale (Breton Kankaven) is a French commune in northern Brittany in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine. It is located in the northwest of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, about ten kilometers east of Saint-Malo, on the Côte d'Émeraude.

The small (really cute) city has 5166 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2015) and belongs to the canton of Saint-Malo-1, until 2015 it was the capital of the canton of Cancale.

Cancale is the northernmost municipality of the Ille-et-Vilaine département. The heart of the city is divided into two districts: The upper town (La Ville Haute) is located 45 m above the bay and is the center with church, market, shops and the Badevillen-settlement on the Pointe du Hock and along the rue Robert Surcouf, which is praised for its architecture and the picturesque view of the Mont-Saint-Michel. The romantic harbor (La Houle) is located directly on the sea and offers good hotels and restaurants. In the Port-Mer district is a popular sandy beach.
