Metz is located on the banks of the Moselle in north-eastern France and is the capital of the French department of Moselle. Until 2016, Metz was also the capital of the former Lorraine region, until it was merged into the Grand Est region. From Saarbrücken you can reach the city of Metz by car in about an hour.
