+++The imposing Fort Bourguignon was once supposed to protect the port of Pula. Today it is an impressive sight.

Bourguignon Fortress is one of the many fortresses built by the Austrian Empire in what is now Pula, Croatia, in the second half of the 19th century. The primary task of Fort Bourguignon was to guard and protect the port of Pula, one of the most important Austrian naval ports of the time.

+++The Fort Bourguignon and its history
The imposing walls were built between 1861 and 1866, when the fortress was still called Fort Monsival. Unfortunately, it is not entirely clear until when it was actually used as a fortress. During the First World War it was temporarily used as a shelter for the army. Unfortunately, in the 1970s, part of the protective canal was filled with rubbish. In the 1980s, the fort was a popular spot for so-called rave parties.

+++Discovery trip on the site of the Bourguignon Fortress
The imposing, circular fortress inspires almost every visitor who comes here. The effect of the fortress during its active time can only be guessed at here. The building has now been left to its own devices. Accordingly, it is slowly decaying and unfortunately visitors can no longer really enter the many rooms.

+++ A destination for visionaries and purists
A short trip here is still worthwhile, if only to explore the extensive grounds and the individual components of the fortress from the outside while enjoying the wonderful view of the surroundings. Hobby photographers will also find numerous motifs here that are worth capturing.

So if you are in the vicinity, you can confidently plan the fortress as a small stopover to take a leisurely stroll to the site and around the complex. Long journeys just to visit the fort are not worthwhile, as it can only be viewed from the outside. Source: lust-auf-kroatien.de/istrien/bourguignon
