The entire square was occupied by the manor of the lords of Cerralbo, with its chapel, stables, enclosures and garden, but since the construction in the 16th century of the house on the Plaza Mayor by the 1st Marquis of Cerralbo, it became part of the oldest various customs, until its final demise and disappearance.

It was the barracks and later the convent of the Barefoot nuns until their transfer in 1739 to the Campo de Trigo, their new convent.

For a while the Court of Audit was also here.

It was in 1849 when it was decided to convert it into a square, sometimes called the old Descalzas, others called the Contaduría, known as the new square, and later Béjar.

In 1929 it was dedicated to the Good Mayor as evidenced by the tombstone it presides over.

The Tuesday market is held here, in memory of the privilege granted to Ciudad Rodrigo by the Catholic Monarchs in 1475, and every week we can admire the shining fruits and vegetables grown in the orchards of Mirobrigenses
