From November to December 1958, the town of Cabañas was the scene of a massacre by anti-communist forces during the Cuban Revolution. Authorities began killing two farmers they believed to be linked to a previous guerrilla attack on government bases. By December, the soldiers reportedly killed dozens of suspected communists and Witnesses. The Havana Times listed the names of 12 people who died in the massacre.
