The eastern path on the Elster flood bed between Schleußiger Weg and Brückenstraße is managed by the State Dam Administration of the Free State of Saxony (LTV) due to its hydraulic engineering, originally flood protection function. As part of the renaturation of - u. a. Due to the construction measures of the LTV - in its ecological function severely damaged and existentially threatened Leipzig floodplain forest these hydraulic engineering systems should be dismantled. LTV has already taken steps to de-designate the dyke. LTV is of the opinion that the path is no longer necessary for operations and has already closed it for public use. On the green initiative, the city council voted in 2021 to preserve this path or create a new natural path for jogging, cycling and experiencing nature in order to relieve the western path in the future. The work on the Dynamic Aue project to revitalize the southern floodplain, in particular the restoration of the channel in the floodplain forest, is to be intensified.
