Recently, almost 300 years ago (1720), an oak was planted in the Leimen forest about 1000 meters south of the forest car park in front of Ligental, which shortly afterwards (from 1850) became known as the stately "engagement oak" (hiking tips). Until it had to be felled a few years ago due to lack of stability, it reached a height of a good 30 meters and a trunk circumference of almost 5 meters. Part of the trunk was left as deadwood and can still be seen in the forest today. A new place for an engagement oak has already been found.
