The Museum of the Pasiegas Breeding Housewives located next to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Valvanuz (Selaya), is a curious and surprising museum located inside the Casa de la Beata.

It is dedicated to the young Pasiegas who emigrated to work as nurses for children who were not theirs. The poverty that existed in this region in the mid-nineteenth century forced a large number of young women to emigrate, who due to their characteristics of robustness and great strength became indispensable in the most powerful families of the court of Madrid, to such an extent that Pasiega nurseries raised the infants of the Spanish Royal Family for generations.

In the Pasiegas Breeding House Museum, a collection of photographs is exhibited, mostly accompanied by the children they raised, as well as a series of panels explaining the conditions that the breeding housewives had to meet, as well as the court doctors who visited Selaya to choose the candidates. A series of costumes that they used in their work and for which they were recognized in the Villa and Court are also exhibited.

Among the outstanding Nurses, and whose photographs are exhibited in the Museum of the Pasiegas Nurses, include: María Gómez, nurse of Alfonso XII, Rosalia Sáinz, wet nurse of Don Alfonso de Borbón (Prince of Asturias), or Constantina Cañizo, nursemaid of Don Juan, Count of Barcelona.
