The complex of San Fantino: (the old church), Tauriani
The complex dedicated to San Fantino il Cavallaro (IV century), a nineteenth-century church and an early Christian crypt, is located in Tauriana di Palmi (RC), a few steps from the Tauriani Archaeological Park
The church visible from the outside was built in 1857 on the ruins of a church from 1600 that has now been destroyed.
Archaeological excavations have revealed the existence of lower levels: one of them belongs to a sixth-century Byzantine basilica, with three naves, some of which are even visible from the outside.
All levels are superimposed on an original underground structure, the so-called early Christian crypt, believed to be the burial place of the saint
