Maffiotto is one of the many villages victims of the depopulation of the mountains, which began immediately after the Second World War following the industrial recovery that involved practically all of Northern Italy. Located at 1320 meters in a splendid panoramic position over the Val Susa, it is today surrounded by a dense forest that almost suffocates the more peripheral houses, but from some images of the 1930s it can be seen that the entire area was made up of meadows and fields. Maffiotto was part of the municipality of Frassiniere, had schools, taverns, shops and everything a town needs to be self-sufficient, currently many houses are in ruins, others have been renovated but still represent a small part of the original residential nucleus. which certainly counted hundreds of inhabitants. The path that connects Maffiotto to Bigiardi was dedicated to the partisan struggle, which is also very active in these villages.
