The name “La Cala del Moral” comes from the Spanish word moral, which means “mulberry tree”, as these trees used to be common in the area. The town has a close connection with fishing, which is reflected in local traditions and dishes. Historically, it was an important part of the defence of the coast, with several towers and other military constructions designed to protect against pirate raids. In addition to beach experiences, La Cala del Moral has many restaurants offering local specialties such as grilled fish (espeto de sardinas) and seafood.
