After devastation of the church in 1632 by Swedish troops in the Thirty Years' War, the church was rebuilt until 1652. In the period 1720-1727, the church was altered in Baroque style, according to plans by Matthew Daniel Pöppelmann as a court church.

Cycling
A Peter and Paul church in Pretzsch is mentioned as early as the 15th century in a foundation of the fishermen's guilds of the time. In the church there was an altar dedicated to St. Nicholas. The royal box, galleries and ceiling paintings date from 1727. After the death of the electress, the work was completed with a tower top whose weathervane shows a crown, the princess's monogram and her year of death. The building was restored in 1896 and 1993.
