The Canaleja Alta Shelter is located in the recreational area of the same name, located at the head of the Canaleja ravine. This refuge is on the road that leads to the Prados del Rey and the Calares. The area is cool, with dense vegetation and numerous water currents. The recreational area has tables and barbecues under the trees, and the shelter itself is a two-story rectangular building.

If you want to explore the surroundings, you will find the Neveros, Collado del Resinero and GR-7 trails near the refuge. Enjoy nature in Canaleja Alta! 🌲🏞️

The path descends to the forest track that leaves the Cortijo Narváez and climbs towards the Mina pass and the Prados del Rey. In the hills on the left are the facilities of the Canaleja Alta recreational area, between the springs that sprout from inside the Calar de Santa Bárbara, about 700 meters below the summit of the mountain and one of the few natural springs of the massif. The place is an oasis of freshness in the calcareous nature of the mountains of the Sierra de Baza. Rainwater and meltwater seeps through the interior of the terrain and comes out several hundred meters below. In any case, you have to fill the canteens well because there is no drinking water for many kilometers. At the curve of the Canaleja ravine, where the vehicle entrance to the recreational area is, the GR-7 detour appears to the right of the forest track, marked with the red and white colors of the popular long-distance path and a sign towards Prados del Rey.
