The moated castle in Gebhardshagen, built around the year 1000, is one of the oldest in the state of Braunschweig. The original appearance of the castle, which had to be rebuilt several times due to military destruction in 1406 and during the Thirty Years War, can no longer be reconstructed today. It was probably surrounded by moats that were supplied by the Mühlbach flowing past. The former Amtsteich next to the castle still exists today.

The castle complex has been owned by the city of Salzgitter since 1986 and is looked after by the "Förderverein Wasserburg Gebhardshagen" - its buildings and the castle courtyard are regularly used for events and celebrations.

The castle Gebhardshagen is a former moated castle in Salzgitter-Gebhardshagen. With its first documentary mention as castle Hagen 1186 it belongs to the oldest water castles in the Braunschweiger country. After military devastation in 1406 and during the Thirty Years War, the plant was rebuilt in each case. In the 16th century, it became a ducal court and official residence. After the castle had lost its military importance, it served from the mid-17th century to 1986 as an agricultural domain.

In the 1960s and 1970s the castle was still an estate where grain and other things were stored
