The Bölkow Bo 105 was the first German Bundeswehr helicopter. In 1962, Bölkow's design office began developing its own helicopter design for civil purposes, with the company name Bo 103. This resulted in the first two-seat prototype Bo 104 as a liaison and observation helicopter. The sensation was the rigid, jointless rotor system, which made looping possible. In 1974, the Bundeswehr ordered the Bo 105 as a light liaison and observation helicopter (Bo 105 M). A year later, the army aviators selected the Bo 105 as an anti-tank helicopter after appropriate modifications. By 1977, further development was complete with this new role as the Bo 105 PAH-1. 100 Bo 105 M and 212 Bo 105 PAH-1 were delivered to the Army Aviation Units. MBB issued licenses for the reproduction of the Bo 105 to manufacturers in Canada, Spain and Indonesia.
