    Tips

    May 21, 2022

Warning: while the first part of the descent is easy, at a certain point the path becomes exposed and narrow, "ramshackle" precisely and practically always overhanging the sea. It is not suitable for children and those suffering from vertigo.
For those who don't feel like it, I recommend going back and maybe going to take a small boat from the Maronti beach to reach the Scarrupata from the sea.
The descent to the Scarrupata Bay is not for everyone.
Here are some tips to prepare yourself in the best possible way and enjoy a day full of nature and relaxation.
1: Wear suitable shoes and headgear
2: bring plenty of water and sunscreen
3: try not to get on and off in too hot hours. During the early hours of the day, in
silence and stillness of the inlet, it is possible to meet schools of dolphins that go as far as the coast.
4: If you decide to go there, face it with the right spirit. It is a place for those who love to relax and stay in contact with nature, respecting it.
5: Dedicate a whole day to Scarrupata. Enjoy the beauty of the place, the sea, diving, snorkeling and lots and lots of sun.

To take the Scarrupata (or Sgarrupata) path you have to reach Vatoliere in Barano. Reach the village church and take the road that runs alongside it; this road leads to a wood where you will find an iron cross placed there by the Passionist Fathers.
Looking to the right of the cross you will see a small path bordered by a wire mesh, take it. You will soon reach a rather steep staircase, from here the descent to the Scarrupata starts.

      Etymology / meaning:
      -CARRUPATA- something ruined, dilapidated, irrecoverable.
In the case of Barano's Scarrupata (or Sgarrupata) it is luck, not a bitter observation. A fortune, because the difficult accessibility of this stretch of coast that ends with a beautiful and suggestive pebble beach has made it possible, at least in part, to preserve the area from real estate and tourist appetites.

The more trained at the Scarrupata can go there on foot: you reach the locality of Vatoliere and along the uphill road that runs alongside the church you reach a wood; arrived at the iron cross of the Passionist Fathers take the small path bordered by a metal mesh.

It is advisable to dedicate a whole day to Scarrupata di Barano because if the descent is fast, at a good pace you reach the sea in ten minutes, the ascent, especially in summer, can become even more tiring if done in the sun.

And then the beauty of the place, the sea and the excellent restaurant that you will find in the bay deserve to spend happy hours diving into the sea, swimming, snorkeling and lots and lots of sun. To take the Scarrupata path you have to reach Vatoliere and Barano.
