Location: Markt Erlbach, Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim, Middle Franconia, Bavaria, Germany
The two source streams of the Aurach originate on the Frankenhöhe in the southern Hohenecker Forest, just in the area of Markt Ipsheim in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district. The higher of the two origins is about 433 m above sea level. NHN. Already after less than a kilometer eastward run, the two streams unite shortly after the municipal boundary to Markt Erlbach in the forest, which the Middle Aurach will soon leave near the parish village of Linden in Erlbach. It now swings under the town of Linden on the right ridge of the river to a long-standing, on a larger scale, approximately east-northeast flow direction. Before the first small village Klausaurach on the bank, she picks up the half-long Leitenbach from the forest of her origins. Here, some spring versions collect drinking water from the Leitenbach basin.

In the municipality of Markt Erlbach, it crosses or passes through the villages and hamlets of Klausaurach, Mettelaurach, Morbach, Losaurach, Mosbach and Kotzenaurach, which are around one kilometer apart, where the valley floor, which is still less than 150 meters wide, is now around 60 meters below right valley level. After a last Erlbach mill settlement, it changes to the area of Markt Emskirchen.
