The "Rhenana" is a replica of a Roman patrol boat of the Navis Lusoria type. After the Limes fell in the 3rd century, the Romans withdrew behind the Rhine and monitored the "flowing" border with a large number of such easy-to-build, flat and manoeuvrable ships. It is made of oak and fir wood and iron nails, weighs 5 tons, is 18 meters long and 2.80 meters wide.
Since it is difficult nowadays to find 24 experienced legionnaires to row, the ship has to be moved by adventurous passengers: e.g. as part of various offers such as company events, leisure trips, team training, school trips or wine tasting.
Civil weddings are also possible on board. Groomsmen and guests can put their hearts into each other for the happy couple. It was not possible to find out at short notice at the Jockgrim registry office whether the bride or groom would have to experience the ceremony riding like a figurehead on the stem.
