The bridge was built by Margrave Ludwig in 1706 at the request of Margravine Augusta. Until 1875, all traffic to the Pfinztal went over the STAIG. As the Allies approached in April 1945, it was to be blown up, like other bridges. It was only saved through the successful intervention of pastor Herbert Fuchs and teacher Wilhelm Mössinger.
